On October 26th, the HRMNNBOX was officially opened as a place for exchange on the future of the Karstadt building on Hermannplatz. In a courtyard party the Rixbox team, the Dialog Hermannplatz team and numerous local players such as the Karuna Social Cooperative and the Fujiama Night Club celebrated its opening and the first step towards the new old glory of Karstadt on Hermannplatz. In addition to opening the new bicycle lane, an urban gardening project was installed, supervised by the Karuna Social Cooperative. Numerous program items accompanied the courtyard party. Visitors had the opportunity to use the bicycle washing facility and the self-service bicycle repair shop provided by fahrrad.de.
Local music acts from the Fujiama Night Club performed, there was a mural painting workshop by the Berlin collective Innerfields and numerous activities for children. In a round table discussion, Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg’s Building Councilor Florian Schmidt, Jörg Richert, Chairman of the Karuna Social Cooperative, Henning Voget from the ADFC and Thibault Chavanat, Project Manager of Karstadt on Hermannplatz, discussed the future of Hermannplatz.
During the event, we heard many different voices, ideas and questions about the future of the Karstadt building on Hermannplatz. We would like to discuss these suggestions further with all interested parties, especially with the residents* of Neukölln and Kreuzberg, at the HRMNNBOX Backyard Kaffee & Co. We are looking forward to a lively exchange with different opinions and welcome everyone to partake!
